When we planned an all-vegetarian menu for one night only at STREET, we weren’t really sure what the response would be. But it was amazing! We’re so grateful for everyone who came out!
The evening was magical…I think doing a complete vegetarian evening was really special for people to come in and to just be able to eat everything on the menu…vegetarian or vegan. I think the dishes people most responded to were the shizo leaves stuffed with yams in a light tempura batter…people kept saying to me, this is like the kaya toast..it could be an appetizer or dessert…loved that.
Also the potato and endive gratin was absolutely perfect. The smoked cream was just the right smokiness, rich but balanced with the tomato. The flat bread with the squash soup..wow…such a fantastic combination of absolute fresh squash flavor, roasted but clean topped with a touch of paprika cream and then finished with this spicy flatbread, with pickled onions, parsley and sumac.
We made a reduced sour cream, mushroom and lemony sauce for the mushroom peroshkis. What was really interesting was how the smoked cream and the tarragon mustard beet vinaigrette looked on the plate..so amazing…and then the flavors..talk about balance…
The Tokyo plate was the perfect finger food….the shizo with yams…that was killer, the umeboshi flavor and the burdock root..this plate was complicated but I think a total treat.
The almond cake for dessert was absolutely unbelievable…totally vegan, which blew me away! The fresh peach marmalade was killer…the cake was incredibly moist…that will be on the menu, for sure.
But the amazing thing was really the energy in the room! Our customers could not say it enough, “You have to do this again, more often…over and over and over!” And honestly, I have to say, I agree!!
